The Human Element Leadership & Management course at the Operational Level (HELM O) is designed for Junior officers & engineers on board ships worldwide to familiarise them with critical elements relating to the globality and diversity in the maritime & shipping industry.

Delegates throughout day one topics will be able to:

  • Identify good practices in shipboard human resource management.
  • Identify the importance of the ‘human element’ in shipboard operations.
  • Apply the underpinning knowledge of related international maritime conventions and recommendations, national regulations, and codes of practice and guidelines covered in other mandatory units when controlling the ship's operation and care for persons on board at the operational level.
  • Apply task and workload management elements, including planning, coordination, location and prioritisation of human and physical resources when controlling the ship's operation and caring for persons on board.
