CMA CGM Group has partnered with Marlink and Eutelsat to integrate OneWeb's Low Earth Orbit connectivity across its fleet, utilising Eutelsat's services along with existing networks in a hybrid architecture via Marlink's XChange NextGen platform.
Under a new multi-year agreement, OneWeb LEO services will be integrated onto over 300 CMA CGM vessels in the next nine months.
The solution from Marlink enhances CMA CGM's global connectivity and resilience using multi-orbit satellite networks, representing a significant advancement in maritime fleet-scale architecture.
CMA CGM will enhance its fleet's digital transformation through high-throughput, low-latency connectivity at sea, facilitating operational efficiency, real-time data exchange, and improved services for crews, thus enabling vessels to achieve digital performance similar to shore-based environments.
Likewise, the solution enhances decarbonisation efforts by optimising routes, speeds, and fuel usage in real-time, thereby reducing emissions and boosting operational efficiency.
Built on the XChange NextGen edge cloud platform, Marlink provides its Possibility Platform for CMA CGM, focusing on cybersecurity, IIoT data collection, cloud capabilities, and centralised fleet coordination, ensuring consistent performance and service continuity regardless of sailing routes.
Besides, the CMA CGM Group is a global leader in logistics, operating in 177 countries with over 650 vessels serving more than 420 ports. Since 2022, it has been a major shareholder of Eutelsat, which underscores its dedication to satellite connectivity and support for French and European digital sovereignty.
The Maritime Professional Training investigates Low Earth Orbit (LEO) connection in fleets, with a focus on delivering high-throughput and low-latency performance, permitting smooth satellite handovers, and necessitating specialised hardware such as flat-panel antennas. Constellation coverage, signal blockage mitigation, data cost management, and cybersecurity are all key factors for operational efficiency and crew well-being.

According to Ramon Fernandez, CMA CGM Group CFO, CMA CGM enhances global connectivity and maritime operations through a partnership with OneWeb, integrating LEO services for improved fleet connectivity, operational efficiency, and crew welfare. This initiative underscores a commitment to trusted solutions and digital sovereignty, aligning with long-term performance and sustainability goals.
Notably, Eutelsat’s CEO, Jean-François Fallacher, expressed gratitude for CMA CGM Group’s ongoing support and enthusiasm for the industrial partnership, as well as collaboration with Marlink to enhance maritime connectivity.
He noted that this agreement represents a significant step forward in the implementation of OneWeb's LEO services within the maritime industry. By incorporating OneWeb into CMA CGM’s connectivity framework, a robust solution is being established to fulfil the rising need for high-performance, low-latency connectivity at sea.
Furthermore, Erik Ceuppens, CEO of Marlink Group, stated that Marlink, in collaboration with CMA CGM, aims to lead the maritime industry's transition into a multi-LEO future, leveraging over 20 years of partnership.
He further added that this initiative underscores Marlink's capability to deliver scalable digital solutions, addressing the industry's increasing digitalisation needs. The next-generation network solution, including Eutelsat OneWeb, promises to enhance operational efficiency, safety, and sustainability across CMA CGM's fleet.
