The Marine and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA) is collaborating with engineering consultant RINA to establish a technology demonstration hub to promote marine innovation, digitisation, decarbonisation, and skill development.
Significantly, the parties have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in this regard. The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Carlo Luzzatto, CEO and general manager of RINA, and Ang Wee Keong, chief executive of MPA.
The Technology Demonstration Center's function
The open innovation centre of RINA in Singapore will incorporate the proposed technology demonstration centre. It will serve as a cooperative setting for creating and evaluating novel approaches to maritime decarbonisation and digitisation.
Moreover, it is anticipated that the project will aid in the certification of smart and remote maritime systems and hasten their practical implementation.
According to Ang Wee Keong, the Memorandum of Understanding with RINA is a significant step towards bolstering Singapore's maritime innovation ecosystem. "By working with international partners like RINA, as well as our local industry and research community, we aim to accelerate the testing and adoption of emerging technologies that will make the sector smarter, safer, and more sustainable."
In order to encourage the use of technologies like smart ships, low-carbon marine fuels, battery-powered systems, and digital port platforms, both groups will collaborate with Singapore's research sector.
Also, it's essential to note that companies like London Maritime Academy support the growth of the industry by providing maritime training programmes in Singapore that include vital subjects like ship technology, AI applications in the maritime sector, and other cutting-edge fields.

Boosting Singapore's Marine Technology Ecosystem
The collaboration is meant to facilitate the industry's transition to more efficient digital operations and lower emissions while also supporting the development of Singapore's marine technology environment.
Besides, RINA and MPA will work together on workforce development projects in addition to technical assistance. This involves participating in industry manpower initiatives and providing education, training, internships, and scholarships to help workers prepare for digital and low-carbon employment in the marine.
Notably, Carlo Luzzatto stated: "We are honoured to partner with MPA. Scaling innovation and advancing sustainability are key priorities in our growth strategy, and this partnership aligns perfectly with those goals. By embracing an open approach with Singapore's ecosystem, we aim to create value for its maritime sector and beyond."
In closing, Yinson GreenTech and the MPA signed a memorandum of agreement in June 2025 to work together on the creation of the Maritime Digital Twin (MDT) platform, which models and simulates Singapore's port environment using real-time operating data.
